In my last post ‘Common Mistakes to Avoid #1‘ we discussed the need to choose Affiliate products that helped niche’s that you were actually interested in. If your going to market an item, digital or tangible you need to be ready for the long haul with it. Find something that you can be passionate about, if that’s coding then research coding and find what people are looking for or what problem they need solved. Then find the product(s) that solve that problem.
Don’t just look “BIG THING” of the day, look for something you can sink your teeth into and are willing to talk with your friends about over coffee or dinner. You will be more excited and it will in the long run be more profitable.
Mistake #2: Joining too many affiliate programs.
Since affiliate programs are very easy to join, many people think the more you join the better and so they sign up with multiple affiliate programs in hopes of maximize their earnings. You are likely thinking that there is nothing wrong and nothing to lose by being part of many affiliate programs.
True, that is a great way to have multiple sources of income. However, joining multiple programs and attempting to promote them all at the same time will prevent you from concentrating on each one of them. As with any job, business, or career you need to focus on what you are doing. I typically refer to this approach as ‘shotgunning’… You create a really wide pattern but none of it has any real impact.
Using this approach usually leads to spending your time trying to remember when and where you signed up for these different programs and never really hitting the center of your target.
The maximum potential of your affiliate program isn’t realized and the income generated will not be what you were hoping for. The best way to get excellent result is by joining just one program that pays at least 40% commission, gives you additional market assistance (banners, images, training) and then provides additional income opportunities. Then give it your best effort by promoting your products enthusiastically using everything they offer and share it whenever you get a chance. As soon as you see that it is already making a reasonable profit, then maybe you can now join another affiliate program.
The idea is to start slowly but surely and to add as much knowledge as you can. There is really no need to rush into things, especially with affiliate marketing. With the way things are going, the future is looking real bright and it seems affiliate marketing will be staying for a long time too.
